HomeWhat is Cupping?

Cupping is the modern name for Suction Cup Therapy.  This remarkable therapy employs negative pressure, rather than the tissue compression of traditional massage, for superior results in a wide array of bodywork techniques.  Suction cup therapy is a traditional, time-honored treatment that is safe, comfortable and remarkably effective for many health disorders.  The value and efficacy of this therapy has been documented through several thousand years of historical, clinical and subjective research.

So..... What does Cupping do to the body?

By creating suction and negative pressure, it releases rigid soft tissue, drains excess fluids and toxins, loosens adhesions, lifts connective tissue, and brings blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.  Myofascial release is direct, and deliberate placement of cups on a specific area, can correct a myriad of debilitating and stubborn conditions.  Restructuring of the myofascial bands is possible with cumulative treatments, which in turn will decrease pain and increase mobility.

How is Cupping accomplished?

The cup is positioned over the treatment area and, depending on the type of cups being used; a vacuum is created by reducing the pressure inside the cup, therefore stretching the underlying tissues up into the cup.  One traditional method uses heat to create the vacuum (fire cups), whereas manual vacuum cups employ a hand pump or rubber bulb attached to a bell.  The suction level can range from light to heavy and the variety of movements performed can be stimulating or sedating.

It feels amazing!!!!!!!!

Another benefit of Cupping is that it really feels great.  The pulling action engages the parasympathetic nervous system, this allowing a deep relaxation to move through the entire body.  It is not unusual to fall asleep when receiving this treatment.  Clients often remark on how relaxed, warm and light they feel - hours...sometimes days after the treatments.
